8 Holland Street presents Catarina Riccabona: Siblings, an exhibition of handcrafted paper-yarn ‘tapestries’ at 8 Holland Street’s St James’s Park Flagship.
The artist’s transformative, self-healing practice in textiles and the personal family bond between her own siblings are woven into this site-specific work. Her practice, which was organically formed from distinct patterns and clues, traces the journey from the loom to the here and now. Siblings is a cohesive collection of 14 tapestries made up of 26 individual panels.
By exploring structural effects such as knots, floats, and cut floats, Catarina Riccabona builds connections that blend both disparity and unity into these ‘siblings’. This work centres around an arrangement of blocks, which is derived from the weave notation for sateen.
Catarina Riccabona (b.1973 Linz, Austria) is a hand-weaver and textile artist based in Cockpit Studios, Deptford, London.
