Explore Leah Jensen’s Latest Work at the British Ceramics Biennial

Earlier this year, Cockpit ceramicist Leah Jensen was one of 10 leading artists commissioned to create new work for the 2025 British Ceramics Biennial.

Her new work, titled ‘It was Lost in the Move’, reflects on the anxieties of housing insecurity through a collection of terracotta artefacts inspired by her experience of moving home 21 times. Leah’s piece will be part of the Biennial’s headline exhibition, running from 6 September to 19 October at Spode Works in Stoke-on-Trent.

Learn more about Leah’s practice here and don’t miss her Artist Talk as part of the Biennial on Saturday 27 September. (Book tickets here.)

From London to Italy: Candice Lau Debuts at Venice Design Biennial

Award-winning leatherworker Candice Lau is heading to Italy this autumn for the Venice Design Biennial.

Candice’s sculptures, rooted in her own family history of migration, explore identity, displacement, and the erasure of knowledge and stories. Expect sculptural forms that twist, crumble, and coalesce, reflecting the messy, poetic work of ‘fitting in’.

Her work will be on view as part of the main exhibition from September 5 to November 2. Find out more here.

Discover the Magic of Birthstones, Reimagined by Cockpit Makers

Did you know that the earliest list of birthstones was created in 1762 by French jeweller Jean Henri Prosper Pouget? Or that the Victorians considered birthstones to be not only fashionable and romantic but symbols of luck?

In a new article for The Times Luxx magazine, Jewellery historian Rachel Church delves into the history (and mystery) of birthstones, the many traditions behind them, and highlights how today’s makers – including Cockpit’s own jewellers Hannah BedfordDonna Brennan, and Mark Nuell – are giving gemstones fresh new meanings.

Craig Yamey Rides the Retro Wave for SURF!

Cockpit maker Craig Yamey has teamed up with the National Maritime Museum Cornwall to create a playful, retro-inspired collection for the new exhibition SURF!.

Exploring surf culture for the first time, Craig was inspired by ’80s and ’90s graphics and the retro mascots he loves to reimagine. The result is a playful collection that captures the spirit of wave-riding with a nostalgic twist.
