Each globe begins as a solid block of wood, turned on the lathe to a sphere. Locations important to a specific life are accurately mapped onto it, then carved and inlaid with silver or gold, or set with gems. The Equator or the North Pole provides overall orientation, but everything else is left out, including borders, countries and continents, so that the finished piece holds a single journey without distraction. It might be a path of immigration or pilgrimage, the way stations of a life long lived, or where you are right now and nowhere else.
